On February 8, the daily newspaper Les Echos published figures from the Commission de soutien aux sous-traitants du secteur automobile (Commission to support automotive subcontractors). According to the Commission's report, drawn up at the request of the French Ministry of Industry, automotive subcontractors shed 35,000 jobs in 2009. Trendeo'sInvestment Observatory identified 27,000 of these job losses (see this presentation of data collected in 2009, slide 14), i.e. almost 80% of the total. These data are available in real time to all our subscribers. We also counted almost 12,000 net job losses at automakers (automakers are not included in the scope of the subcontractor support commission's study). According to the commission, the automotive subcontractor sector could shed a further 40,000 to 50,000 jobs over the next two years.
