In our 9ᵉ barometer on global industrial investment, carried out in partnership with McKinsey & Company and the Institut de la Réindustrialisation, we ranked the world's top 100 regions 🌍 for hosting 🔬 R&D projects.
This ranking is based on the analysis of 1,422 R&D projects announced between 2016 and 2024, identified by our analysts, representing over $160 billion 💰 of investment.
As the attached table shows, in terms of the number of projects (domestic and foreign combined), 🏅 Bavaria ranks first in Europe, but only in 16ᵉ position.
Île-de-France, France's leading region, ranks 20ᵉ.
Generally speaking, Europe is better positioned for R&D than for industrial manufacturing projects.
But the question remains: can we continue to maintain a strong position in R&D with a low share of industrial manufacturing?
